2-Ingredient Chocolate Mousse (GF)

Hey everyone!

I hope you’re all done with exams for those of you who are in school or university! I’m finally done and it’s the best feeling in the world to be honest 🙂 I can relax, spend time with family and friends and … EAT lots and lots! I am also going away to New York City and going home (Paris) for Christmas so be on the lookout for a NYC & Paris food haul in early January!

Anyway, before leaving Vancouver, my girl friends and I had a get together before finals because one of my roommates is going on exchange next semester. We wanted to all have dinner together before finals started and we would all go back home for the holidays. So I decided to surprise my roommate and make her favourite dessert: my dark chocolate mousse!

It’s literally the easiest recipe ever and you only need 2 INGREDIENTS! I mean 3 if you count salt… It’s also super healthy and perfect for a Christmas dessert 🙂 IMG_8798

Ingredients:

(6 servings)

  • 200g of dark baking chocolate: the best quality the better because it does make a huge difference
  • 6 eggs
  • A pinch of salt
  • Options: orange zest, extra sea salt, instant coffee.

Instructions:

Break your chocolate bar in small pieces. Make a water bath: put your chocolate in a saucepan and put it in a slightly bigger saucepan with a little bit of water in it. That way, the chocolate melts slowly and doesn’t burn. Make sure you stir your chocolate regularly.

While the chocolate is melting, separate your egg whites and yolks in two different bowls. Put your egg whites in a big bowl with the pinch of salt, and whip them until they form stiff peaks.

Once the chocolate is melted, add the egg yolk one by one, and mix well between each. Delicately add the egg whites little by little to the chocolate mixture. Because the egg white is fragile, make sure you use a spatula or wooden spoon and lift the mixture upwards and slowly.

If you want to add orange zest, extra sea salt or instant coffee, add it now.

Place the mousse in your serving bowls and leave in the fridge for at least 3 hours.
